There are only a few weeks left until the 2022 iPhones are released and the latest rumors are coming thick and fast. Now it looks like we have an idea of what colors the new models will be wearing, and it’s pretty cool.
Update August 6 below. This post was first published on August 4, 2022.
For the iPhone 14, there will be six colors at launch. It’s the same number that’s available for the iPhone 13 now. And they are, white, black, green, red, blue and purple.
Update of August 6th. As you will read below, one of the new colors that iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro are expected to be dressed in is purple. It’s not the first time there has been a purple iPhone as both iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 were such a shade (although they were different shades, for sure).
But if that were true, this would definitely be the first time an iPhone Pro would be purple. Since @Jioriku made his claims, numerous images have appeared that try to show exactly what the new iPhones will look like. While many look like some sort of lilac or mauve again, one rendering stands out. On Twitter, someone named Tech God (@ tgod34748) was judged for inventing the most accurate version of the new color, according to @adry_ghincea, who describes himself as: “My dream is to be a designer, my life is about fashion” .
It’s unclear how authoritative they are with regards to the final color, but it’s definitely an eye-catching hue and much deeper and darker than other interpretations. I really like it. When asked how deep and dark it is, the answer is that it will appear almost black, depending on the light.
I find it a little surprising. After all, Apple already has graphite in the Pro range, which likewise looks almost black in many lights. Will Apple want another iPhone that is so dark, so dark in fact that it might be difficult to tell the two apart in many situations?
Well, only possibly. After all, the Apple Watch Series 7’s green and black colors are both very dark and look black in many lighting situations. Only when green captures the light in the right way does its green tint shine through.
In other words, with recent colors like Apple Watch green, or with Starlight and Midnight on Apple Watch, iPhone, and MacBook Air, Apple enjoyed showing us colors that take on extra depth with just the right lighting.
There are other renders of how the color will look, and remember that on the iPhone 14 it will almost certainly be a glossy and glossy finish while the Pro will have a matte finish. That sheen could cause the iPhone 14 to be brighter than the iPhone 14 Pro.
More news as we get them.
Now, let’s go back to the original loss.
There are four things to note here.
First, these are emphatically not the names Apple will definitely call them. The current range has no black or white options, calling instead its darker shade Midnight and its sumptuous gold and silver finish with white back Starlight. Also, there is no red in the current range, but rather PRODUCT (RED) to indicate that the money is being donated to a worthy cause.
I think PRODUCT (RED) and Midnight will definitely be the color names, and I would be surprised if Starlight, given its success, wasn’t there. Blue and Green will be the names of those shades, I would say.
The second thing to note is that there is a new color here, purple, which replaces the current pink, although it appears to have been quite popular (it’s a very pretty shade of pastel pink).
But purple is undoubtedly welcome. He is not the first viola. There was a purple iPhone 11 and a darker version of the same name for the iPhone 12. Both were more lilac than purple to be brutally frank. So maybe 2022 will be the first time there will be a deep, visceral purple. We will see.
Third, and this also applies to the Pro colors, none of them will be identical to the current versions. Apple changes the colors every year, although the names remain the same. PRODUCT (RED) is also slightly different from year to year and I would expect the same this time around.
Fourthly, keep in mind that the iPhone 13 launched in five colors, you are not as expected here. The sixth color, green, was added in the middle of the year. The iPhone 12 launched in five colors, but the iPhone 11 appeared in six upon release, so it’s not impossible.
Let’s move on to the iPhone 14 Pro, then.
The new colors are expected to be Green, Silver, Gold, Graphite and Purple. I am sure that Silver, Gold and Graphite will be correct (although Graphite may possibly have a name revision).
And a new Purple makes sense, although I think it will have a different name and will likely be a different shade from the iPhone 14.
Green will replace the current Alpine green.
But I would just like to point out that previously there have never been five Pro colors at launch, there have always been four since the Pro was introduced in 2019. Alpine green was added to the range just a few months ago. It’s not impossible, but I just add the smallest note of skepticism here.
Best of all: There are only a few dozen days left to know everything about the next range of iPhones.
