With the next Gran Turismo 7 update scheduled for Thursday, November 24, the game’s official website has revealed the new content for players to explore in the usual pre-update post.
It confirms the identities of the upcoming cars, for which we had already made some pretty solid guesses, as well as the surprise new circuit: Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. A long-awaited feature film will also make its debut.
As usual, the post and video you’ll see below are for the new content in the update only. We’ll have to wait until the update arrives to discover more new features, although we already know there’s a whole host of things coming to celebrate both this weekend’s Gran Turismo World Final and the 25th anniversary of the series on December 23rd.
Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.26 New track
A new track is always the biggest news, and this month’s one is a real cracker: Road Atlanta.
The circuit in Georgia, USA, is located near Lake Lanier, one of the filming locations of Netflix Ozarks standing for the Lake of the Ozarks – in the state’s hilly northeast. Working with the topography, the 12-turn circuit features some impressive elevation changes and challenging corners.
Once owned by automotive legend Don Panoz, the circuit has hosted top-level events in Can-Am, Trans-Am, Formula 5000 and even NASCAR, but is perhaps most famous as the home of Panoz’s Petit Le Mans.
This ten hour (originally 1,000 mile) endurance race is closely based on the rules of Le Mans itself and sees some of the best performing closed wheel cars compete for the title.
The inclusion of Road Atlanta means all three GT7The new real circuits of Daytona, Watkins Glen and Road Atlanta are North American circuits hosting top-level IMSA racing.
The preview doesn’t reveal the different layouts available at the circuit, but the images suggest there will be weather changes in addition to the day/night cycle.
Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.26 New cars
Together with the new circuit we have the official confirmation of the three new cars on the way Granturismo 7 also.
First on the list is the classic 1996 Nissan Silvia (S14) Ks Aero, a car that has been in Gran Turismo (as well as minor titles and GT Sports) as long as there has been a Gran Turismo.
It is the top model of the S14 generation, featuring the 208hp version of the SR20DET and, as the ‘aero’ name suggests, some aerodynamic additions over the base model. We’ll likely see the car enter the rotation of used car dealers, though it should be available as a “hot” addition when the update arrives.
Another classic, but probably intended for the Legends Car dealership, is the Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500. This limited run model – 500 cars only – was a homologation special, converted by Aston Martin and Tickford from the original RS Cosworth.
As well as sporting an additional 20bhp from the uprated engine, the car was the basis of a highly successful Group A racing car which amongst other things won UK Touring Car Championships (BTCC), Australia (ATCC) and Germany (DTM), as well as the Bathurst 1000. Twice.
Finally there is a modern performance car, which comes in the form of the BMW M2 Competition. This coupe is based on the 1 Series sedan and sports the BMW S55 engine, which produces 40PS more than the already powerful 365PS M2 with N55 engine. We expect it to fit into Brand Central.
In addition, there is also a Gran Turismo Red Bull X2019 25th Anniversary Special Edition, available to participate in any of the 25th Anniversary special events. It is unclear whether this is a separate car, a livery or a car without a license plate like the Dior De Tomaso.
Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.26 New Features
In addition to all of the above, 1.26 will see the debut of something fans have been asking for ever since Granturismo 7 launched: salable cars.
A PlayStation Blog post for the update confirms that players “will be able to sell cars within their personal garage once they complete the GT Café menus.” Of course, we don’t yet know how this feature will work, but it will probably be great news for gamers who have 412 Honda NSX Gr.B cars for… some reason.
Two new Scapes collections will also be added in the update, featuring ten locations in the new Road Atlanta circuit and a set of 26 locations called “Illuminations”. This seems to be themed around places with decorative lighting.
We don’t yet know what other features the update will add, but this will likely be revealed in the patch notes after the update goes live.
A server maintenance period will take the game offline from 06:00 to 08:00 on Thursday 24 November, during which time players will begin being able to download the update. However, you will not be able to access and play the new content until the maintenance period ends and you update the game.
