Evolution stones in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are hard to track down, and once you find them, you’re a bit limited in what you can do with them. Outside of staples like Fire Stone, finding most evolution stones is a matter of luck. If you’re hoping to raise an army of Glaceons or Mismagius, you’re going to need a lot of patience and perhaps a friend or two willing to lend you there.

This guide shows you where to find each stone and which Pokémon need them. If you already have stones and need a Pokémon to use them on, check out our guide on where to find Eevee.

All evolution stones in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Found some stones in fixed locations around Paldea, in Poké Balls with beams of red light that shine out of them like other items. These are one-of-a-kind items. Others will not appear in that location during any point in the game.

Others appear as random elements, denoted by sparkles of gold on the ground, and you may be able to find more than one on your trip. Similar to finding rare Pokémon like Eevee, you can leave a certain area and return to reset available items (and Pokémon) to give yourself another chance to find an evolution stone.

So far, we’ve only found one Dusk Stone location, and that’s it behind the building of the Montenevera Gym. This is a permanent item drop, unlike the other stones, meaning you have to rely on the Auction House to get you more.

Moonstone locations

Moonstones are a little more complicated, it seems. We found one near Zone Zero on the southeastern rim of the Gran Crater of Paldea, but some reports suggest that they may be found as well anywhere in Area Zero as a random item. It’s quite a large space, so keep your eyes peeled for the telltale golden glitter as you travel.

Port Marinada Auction House

Port Marinada, north of the Asado Desert, is home to a bustling auction house with several sellers. Many of these vendors change their wares every day in the real world – when your Switch’s internal clock drifts from one date to another – and while their stock is seemingly determined at random, one or more of them may have evolutionary stones of any kind for sale.

The downside is that, being an auction house, you may end up paying exceptionally large sums of money for these stones if an NPC keeps driving up the price. If you have the Poké Dollars and don’t mind spending them, though, this is your best chance to get evolution stones like the Dusk Stone after you’ve used up all of their known locations in the wild.
