MSI anticipated the launch of its next-generation Intel Z790 chipset motherboards for 13th-generation Raptor Lake CPUs later this month.

MSI has tweeted on its upcoming virtual product launch event “The Next Playground – Reframed” which will take place on September 27 at 9:20 am (Pacific Daylight Time). This means there are about 10 days left until the launch of the upcoming products. The teaser image shows four upcoming motherboards that will be part of the Z790 family and will support Intel Raptor Lake CPUs.

Motherboards include MSI MAG, MPG and MEG series products such as MEG Z790 ACE, MPG Z790 Carbon WiFi, MPG Z790 EDGE WiFi Force and MAG Z790 Tomahawk. MSI already teased its next generation MPG Z790 Carbon WiFi a few weeks ago, which we talked about here. The silhouette of this motherboard reveals some interesting new design choices. Of course, MSI Z790 motherboards will offer brand new features over the Z690 range.

LGA 1700 platform for 13th generation Intel “Raptor Lake” CPU

Intel is keeping its LGA 1700 platform for at least one other line of CPUs and that’s Raptor Lake. Chipzilla has confirmed that Raptor Lake CPUs will be compatible with existing LGA 1700 cards based on the 600 series chipset. But like every generation, motherboard manufacturers will offer a brand new range of motherboards based on the 700 series chipset that will ship with higher I / O lanes. In addition to that, the Raptor Lake chips will support DDR5-5600 speeds, which is a nice leap over the native DDR5-5200 speeds supported by Alder Lake.

The Z790 chipset will offer 20 PCIe Gen 4 and 8 PCIe Gen 3 lanes while the CPUs will be equipped with 16 PCIe Gen 5 and 4 PCIe Gen 4 lanes. We know that the motherboard manufacturer will have some products that will split the x16 dedicated graphics card lanes. with one M.2 PCIe Gen 5 x4 slot. Intel will not have native PCIe Gen 5 M.2 support until the 14th generation Meteor Lake chips.

This offers a good upgrade path for users who currently use a mainstream Core i3 or Core i5 CPU and wish to upgrade to a higher-end chip. They can simply replace their existing 12th generation CPU with a high-end Core i7 or Core i9 SKU which will boost their PC’s overall performance.
