Publisher and developer D3 Shade announced the sword fighting action game SAMURAI FESTIVAL for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Switch and PC (Steam). It will be launched this winter around the world.

SAMURAI FESTIVAL follows student Tsumugi Tamaori, who is summoned in her sleep in the Sengoku period, where she must ally with new friends and use her sword skills to defeat the undead evil unearthed at Honnoji Temple.

Here is an overview of the game, via D3 Publisher:

SAMURAI FESTIVAL follows the story of a high school student who falls asleep after a boring day of history lessons, waking up next to the historical figure, Nobunaga Oda, known as the first great unifier in Japan. The two find themselves in the burning temple of Honnoji where the underworld has opened. After training in the art of sword fighting as a hobby, Tsumugi is suddenly put to the test in a real battle as she is given the evil protective blade from the desperate Nobunaga Oda, who enters the underworld to end the calamity. Even Tsumugi, an admittedly poor history student, recognizes Oda as the hero of the Sengoku period and realizes that she must live up to this bizarre opportunity.

In SAMURAI FESTIVAL, players can expect to slaughter mobs of undead enemies with Tsumugi’s powerful sword skill. With stylish combo attacks and powerful counterattacks, Tsumugi is well equipped to kill groups of zombies and tough bosses, but as a modern day student, she can’t fight to get out of the underworld!

However, Tsumugi is not SAMURAI FESTIVALshe is the only fighter: she meets three friendly ninjas at Honnoji Temple, known as The Gokage, who decide to challenge the underworld with her. The Gokage is made up of Iyo, a hardworking ninja with a variety of tools, Hagane, an older ninja with a mechanical body, and Komimi, a genius with a unique jutsu. During the journey, the team will fight, laugh and fight together, creating new bonds in the process.

On their journey, players will be able to utilize the “Gokage System”, which allows for a quick combination of Tsumugi’s sword style and The Gokage’s powerful ninjutsu. From the samurai’s cutting and piercing attacks, to the ninja’s metal arm, frost yin yang jutsu and various kunai attacks, players will be able to use these two types of attack to fight the treasure of undead enemies.

In addition, the party has unlockable special abilities: when the spirits of Tsumugi and The Gokage have increased, they can unlock these abilities by closing their lips. However, they will need to build mutual trust before these special unified abilities can be unleashed in battle.

Nobunaga Oda, Honnoji’s incident in 1582 … 1582 …?

Alone in her class after school, Tsumugi Tamaori is studying while in detention. History is not her strong point. She doesn’t particularly like having to remember dates.

“I’m glad I wasn’t born in the Warring States period,” she mutters to herself. Every single page in her
the textbook relating to that historical period is littered with stories of battles.

This is the last clear memory of Tsumugi, before he passed out …

When he wakes up, he is no longer in a classroom, but in a temple engulfed in flames: Honnoji.

“If you don’t want to die, you have to fight,” said a bearded man who called himself Nobunaga Oda. Tsumugi can’t tell if he’s the real Nobunaga Oda, though, as the only images in the history books
are woodblock prints.

A crowd of skeletons swarms into the temple. Tsumugi receives a long Japanese sword. It wasn’t as fake as those from fencing training. This was a real sword.

“Looks like he has no choice! If I have to fight, I’ll fight with all my strength! ”

June 2, 1582, the Honnoji incident. In the last days of Oda Nobunaga, the hero of the Warring States period, a girl named JK finds herself thrown into the fray. This might spice up the history books a bit …
