A great ‘Destiny 2’ season 18 and Lightfall theory to make sense of the mystery

Destiny 2 has moved into a phase where they essentially don’t want to tell us anything about the upcoming content until launch day, something I would consider a lackluster marketing strategy, but hey, Bungie can do whatever it wants.

Over the past week or so, we’ve been told that we won’t hear anything significant about Season 18 until its launch day, August 23, where there will be a large Destiny showcase also focusing on Lightfall, next year’s expansion. We were also told that we wouldn’t hear which Destiny 1 raid would be returning until that day, even if it only launches three days later. It seems increasingly likely that we won’t learn the ins and outs of Arc 3.0 until it’s available in the game, as we did with Solar 3.0.

How come? Why is this a mystery? As I said in a video I made yesterday, I believe this is not the same category of silence as Bungie taking a step back from social media due to recent threats, as it is more of a marketing decision. And one idea is that all of these things are linked together in a way that one would reveal, in effect you would reveal them all, which is why they are all bundled and debuted at the same time.

So, do you want a great theory? Here is a great theory. I’m not saying that necessarily consider this theory, but it is an explanation. There are many pieces here:

2. Over the years, I have seen Bungie specifically claim that they have absorbed feedback on the community’s desire to return to SIVA, although so far it has only manifested in a few exotic ornaments and the return of Outbreak Prime itself.

3. While Rasputin was an important part of the storyline in the seasons prior to Beyond Light, it was “turned off” when the darkness presented itself. We know that Ana Bray took him away from Mars in an engram and is currently building him a special exotic body to try to restore him somehow. Further information suggests that he may return under the name “Archangel”.

4. The Witch Queen teased a place called Nefele Stronghold, a secret human outpost that Rasputin kept hidden from everyone.

Hence, SIVA and Rasputin are the great unifying force for all that comes after:

  • The theory would be that season 18 marks Rasputin’s return and the reintroduction of SIVA as a concept in some way. The season could be about restoring his body as further threats loom from the Dark and giving him back some of his power. We know that he helped to stop the Collapse earlier, and as a second Collapse looms, we may need him to help us do it again.
  • The raid of season 18 would then be Wrath of the Machine, the SIVA-based Rise of Iron raid. It’s the less obvious choice in King’s Fall, so it would be a surprise. As Vault of Glass arrived during a Vex season, Wrath could arrive during a SIVA season. Nor is it entirely impossible that it could be integrated into the story in any way, even if Vault of Glass wasn’t.
  • Enter Lightfall, an expansion that everyone believes will be about the traveler being attacked in some direct way, which would once again require one of the earth’s greatest defenders, Rasputin, to step forward and help. All also this expansion is expected to introduce a fifth subclass, as The Witch Queen did not, and now all 3.0 subclasses will be finished. Although the common theory has been the poison / decay subclass, we might also see the realization of another old theory, a kind of SIVA based class where I don’t know, SIVA mixes with the energy of darkness to become a power that the Guardians can control. We get a list of powers based on SIVA and SIVA becomes a new type of damage. Instead of filling the “green” poison slot, we instead get a debut of the “red” element, which looks like the other likely color theme if the ultimate goal is for Destiny to have three light and three dark subclasses and damage types when all is said and done.

I suppose I could even weave Arc 3.0 in there, as it could be part of the story in season 18 as Rasputin is a machine and Arc is light-infused electricity, but since Solar 3.0 didn’t have a story component, who knows.

Again, all of this could be a huge swing and a mistake, which is why I’m not actually putting eggs in this basket. I’m just saying it might explain why nothing is made fun of and Everything is saved for a specific revelation on August 23. Maybe it’s all disconnected, I don’t know, but it would make more sense if the answer were something like this. We will see.
