The festive season is here and the annual holiday markets welcome guests across Canada with catchy tunes, roasted chestnuts, hot cider, Christmas carols and handmade treasures to fill the stockings. It’s a wonderful opportunity to support local artists who are selling their products and businesses by offering workshops and services to the community. Whether you celebrate Hanukkah, Christmas, or just love all things glittery and winter-themed, these five Canadian markets are bursting with Christmas cheer.

Ottawa Christmas Market

Canada’s capital is home to the European-style Ottawa Christmas Market, and it’s sure to inspire your festive spirit just in time for the holidays. The fun takes place in Lansdowne Park’s Aberdeen Square, surrounded by historic snow-covered buildings and wooden chalets with thousands of twinkling lights and decorations all around. Local vendors will be there selling unique gifts and there is entertainment and fun programs for the whole family. There’s a tree lighting ceremony, a silent disco with headphones, breakfast with Santa, and talented artists performing on stage at Casino Lac Leamy. Kids can create arts and crafts masterpieces at Santa’s Workshop and your pets can experience the magic with Santa Paws. Montreal’s Great Christmas Market

Practice your French and get ready for a magical journey to the Great Montreal Christmas Market in the Quartier des Spectacles on Sainte-Catherine Street. Returning with a festive new look, guests can explore the 30 chalets of local or regional artisans selling products such as jewellery, clothing, cosmetics, decorations and food. There will be musical and theatrical programs and places to socialize and chat while enjoying mulled wine and sweets with family and friends. You can also check out Montreal’s magical Christmas village with a kingdom of elves located on the Place du Marché Atwater.

Vancouver Christmas Market

You’ll find plenty of holiday cheer at the European-inspired Vancouver Christmas Market at Jack Poole Square. Known for bringing Old World holiday tradition to the city, the glittering trails will lead you to gourmet food, authentic German beverages, a market selling food and gifts, carousel rides, holiday-themed entertainment, and a scavenger hunt for kids. New this year is the Sky Curtain of Lights on the market, so you can search for treasures with the holiday spirit all around you. Save time to check out their magical Christmas tree filled with 36,000 twinkling lights and glittering ornaments, and sip a cup of warm apple cider at the Winterdeck as you take in the North Shore mountain and ocean views.

Market Collective Holiday Series – Calgary

Located at the BMO Center in Calgary, Market Collective Holiday Series is an event that helps bring the community together.
